By now you’ve probably heard that on Monday, April 30, the cast of “Battleship” will present a never-before-seen clip from the upcoming movie on MTV at 7:56 p.m. ET.

You probably know all about the 30-minute interview with the stars that will follow on MTV.com and how you can get your question answered by submitting a video or text to MTV.com or Twitter via @MTVNews, using the hashtags #MTVFirst and #askBATTLESHIP.

But that’s probably not enough for you, since you simply cannot wait until the clip’s premiere on Monday night. Luckily, we have a sneak peek at the exclusive scene, and it looks like things are going to get a little explosive.

“Battleship” is the latest adaptation from Hasbro, and boasts one of the hottest young casts of any movie this summer. Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgård, Rihanna and Brooklyn Decker all star in the upcoming sci-fi action flick and will participate in the extended chat on MTV.com immediately after the clip airs.

Kitsch spoke with MTV News last fall about his latest collaboration with director Peter Berg, who gave the Canadian actor his big break on the television adaptation of “Friday Night Lights.” “You don’t know what to expect with ‘Battleship,’ especially when we team up, Pete and I. You’re going to get a lot of laughs, guaranteed,” Kitsch said. “And, of course, the action is going to speak for itself. It’s huge.”

The first round of MTV News’ Battle of the Boy Bands has officially ended, but there is still time for fans to cast their votes for their favorite heartthrob group in hopes to title them the ultimate boy band of all time.

Another group urging their biggest followers to vote for them are the guys from Mindless Behavior. But before you get mindless with your votes, here are some facts about the foursome that might help steer your mind in the right direction:

Highest Chart Achievement
Their single “Mrs. Right” featuring rapper Diggy Simmons reached #8 on the U.S. Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop charts after its 2011 release.

Defining Tune
The guys confess they would travel the world just to find the right kind of girl in the beat-popping hit “Mrs. Right,” causing female hearts in every country to flutter.

Standout Video
During their pledge to search high and low for “Mrs. Right,” the boys get a lesson or two in geography from their teacher, Professor LL Cool J. Directed by Brett Ratner, the video also features Mike Epps as the school janitor, who joins in on the fun during a pep rally to cheer on Diggy Simmons and the group’s signature dance moves.

Debut Album
Their debut album, #1 Girl, hit the U.S. in September 2011, debuting at #7 on the Billboard 200 with 36,000 copies sold in its first week.

Biggest Competition
Despite all of their success, the boys weren’t afraid to admit who they thought might be their biggest competition amid the new wave of boy bands that has exploded on the scene. “As far as other boy bands who I feel [are] our biggest competition is One Direction and the Wanted,” Roc Royal told us. “That’s a huge competition for us, because we all have different movements, and they come from the U.K., and they also have fans out here, which, they have a lot of fans out here, so it’s crazy.”

So why do the guys think they should win our Battle of the Boys Band? Well, it’s simple, really: “There’s a lot of boy bands in the poll, but we’re definitely unique,” Princeton stated. “So please vote for us.”

Ray Ray chimed in: “I think we should win the title for Best Boy Band of All Time because we have a great movement. Our Mindless movement is all about being confident, just being yourself, not caring what other people think, stopping all the bullying and, one, we’re really great artists. We have songs that anyone can listen to. That’s why I think we should win.”

“And we love all of the fans,” Princeton added.

When it comes to learning the key to becoming a great boy band, the group even filled us in on a little secret the Backstreet Boys once told them while on tour together: “When we were on tour with the Backstreet Boys, the advice that they gave us was ‘Stick together no matter what,’ ” Ray Ray shared. “They said: You might have arguments here and there, but just stick together. You have to become family although you’re in a group. You have to literally become family, and you got to stick together.”

Voting in round two of MTV’s Battle of the Boy Bands runs until noon ET on Monday, April 30. Winners are determined by fan votes, so if your favorite band made the cut, make sure you keep voting. Boy Band Allegiances: Why They Matter

// April 27th, 2012 // No Comments » // Movies

In honor of MTV’s Battle of the Boy Bands, Above the Buzz breaks down boy-band mania and why picking a favorite really matters.

There’s a full-on war happening out in the pop trenches. That war is being fought on the battlefield of the hearts of teen girls everywhere. The soldiers? Well, they are the new bevy of boy bands that are dominating the charts, the airwaves and the conversation.

Some people (mostly some older men that I know) are confused by it. They may not understand why anyone should care about boy bands. Well, here’s why we do care: I think the rest of us are kind of into that joyful feeling of youthful exuberance that comes with boy bands. That feeling those five guys give you when they sing to you about love and how pretty you are. Heck, we’ve all been there. We’ve all had our Nick Carters or Justin Timberlakes.

These days, some girls are proudly waving their freak flags and declaring their devotion to always-cheeky British boy band the Wanted. Meanwhile, other girls prefer the floppy-haired, puppy love vibe of One Direction. Either way, these guys are using well-produced pop tunes about the nuances of romance to win you (or your little sister or teen cousin or some other young woman you know) over. And those girls feel they must decide — they have to pick a band.

Girls, I understand that strife. Listen, I’ve been there. I spent my formidable early teen years at the height of the greatest boy-band battle of all time: the Backstreet Boys vs. ‘NSYNC. Yep, I survived it. Like Katniss in “The Hunger Games.” They were like the Peeta and Gale of the pop world. Who would I choose? Well, I chose. And I’ve never doubted my choice. So, to aid you with this modern-day boy-band dilemma, here’s some handy advice to help you navigate the murky waters of a boy-band-pocalypse.

Back then, I happily declared “BSB for life!” Sure, I enjoyed ‘NSYNC a lot. I had all their albums, saw them in concert, may have wondered what it would be like to date one of them. I was hardly a boy-band rookie at that point. As a kid, I had already been pretty obsessed with the New Kids on the Block. “Please Don’t Go Girl?” Psh, try, “Please don’t go guys … ever.” My love for boy bands has been and will always be a lifelong commitment.

The fever I had for the Backstreet Boys was beyond. It was “wake up early to wait in line for concert tickets” obsessed. It was “get my VCR ready to tape their appearance on ‘TRL’ ” crazed. It was “break out my boom box and make mixtapes of their radio appearances and play them back … over and over” fevered. I had posters and T-shirts and concert stubs and more posters and T-shirts and albums and concert specials and everything BSB.

I loved the guys so much that I may have even attempted to pen songs that I thought the guys might want to sing. (And no, you can’t ever read them or hear them. I’m no Max Martin.)

So, as you can see, I get it. I get how you can love a band that much. But you might be wondering, how did I pick a side? Well, that’s not easy to put into words.

I just did it — I just picked with my heart. I think when it comes to identifying with a boy band, it’s just something you feel in your gut. It’s their music, their brand of boy-band bravado, their flavor. Their sheer existence and the way it speaks to you.

Why did I pick the Backstreet Boys? I don’t know. I just loved them. Those songs, those melodies. Man, it didn’t get better than that. They just spoke to me on some subatomic level. I mean, who could not pick a band who tells you “I’ll never break your heart/ I’ll never make you cry”?

Now, as I watch a new generation of girls caught up in boy-band mania, I get it. These are the boys you crush on. These are the boys you pin your girlhood dreams on. So, get caught up in the fever, girls. It only happens once. Blast the tunes, go to the shows, buy the merchandise. I promise you, one day when you’re all grown-up, you’ll look back on this time fondly.

Why? Well, to put it simply, nothing is better than your first boy band. Nothing.

Voting in round two of MTV’s Battle of the Boy Bands runs until noon ET on Monday, April 30. Winners are determined by fan votes, so if your favorite band made the cut, make sure you keep voting. Jack Black Sings Praises Of Charlie Kaufman’s ‘Frank Or Francis’

// April 26th, 2012 // No Comments » // Movies

When we think of actors most likely to be in a musical, Jack Black, Steve Carell, Nicholas Cage, Kevin Kline and Elizabeth Banks don’t initially come to mind, but a musical is exactly the project they’ve all signed on for.

Charlie Kaufman’s new comedy “Frank or Francis” is a satire of Hollywood that follows a rivalry between director Frank (Carell) and online blogger Francis (Black) brought on by a series of bad reviews. Banks plays a celebrated actress involved in a love affair with Frank, Cage is “The Emcee,” an actor famous for his movie ideas, and Kline plays a director with the world’s highest grossing film in his repertoire.

When MTV News’ Josh Horowitz caught up with Black at CinemaCon 2012, the actor revealed the film is a musical with an “incredible script.”

“[The script is] under lock and key. It is a musical,” Black shared. “I will be singing. Everyone will be in fact. If you’re in that movie you will be singing. There’s no just regular talking it’s all [singing].”
