In 2004, when the original “Star Wars” trilogy was released on DVD for the first time, fans found a little, nasty surprise at the end of “Return of the Jedi.” During the victory celebration on Endor when Luke finds Yoda, Ben Kenobi, and a fully human Anakin Skywalker watching the party, Sebastian Shaw, the original Anakin, was missing, replaced by the ghostly image of Hayden Christensen. The change was just another step in George Lucas’ quest to continually update the series and upset fans.
But now that Peter Jackson has returned to make his own prequel trilogy, could “Lord of the Rings”…
