Clarke proud of all-round Australia

Australia’s captain Michael Clarke said there was a great feeling around the squad after their 2-1 series win against Pakistan, a victory all the more special because of the conditions in which the matches were played. In sapping heat and humidity, the Australians avoided their first series loss to Pakistan in a decade and Clarke was especially pleased with the way the workload was spread throughout his side.

McDermott stays on for UAE Twenty20s

The fast bowler Alister McDermott will remain with Australia’s squad in the UAE for the Twenty20 series against Pakistan. McDermott, 21, was a late addition to the ODI squad as a replacement for the injured Clint McKay, but he was not called on to make his international debut during the series, which Australia won 2-1. McKay will take rejoin the group for the Twenty20 portion of the tour but the selectors have decided to keep McDermott on as well.

Acer to release six smartphones in 2013, including Windows 8 device

Hardware maker Acer, better known for its PCs and tablets, is planning to release six new smartphones next year, according to reports — with the devices to run either Microsoft’s Windows 8 or Android. Acer president Jim Wong told Taiwanese publication Digitimes: One of the six models will be a Windows Phone 8 device and the rest will run on Android platforms, with high-end models to be built with Qualcomm’s dual-core CPUs and entry-level models using chipset solutions from MediaTek.

New Zealand domestic T20 to be televised

The 2012-13 New Zealand domestic season will feature 12 televised HRV Cup matches, on Friday nights during the Christmas holiday period. New Zealand chief executive David White, in a board release, said the deal to broadcast part of the domestic Twenty20 competition was ‘an excellent result’ for the sport in the country.
