First for FIFA World Cup: Not 100% grass
The match between Algeria and Slovenia that has just kicked off will be the first World Cup match ever that is played on a surface that is not 100% grass – not something that will be new to all players, but still a first for a FIFA World Cup.
The stadiums in Polokwane and Nelspruit are the only ones at this World Cup to not have 100% grass but if it goes well, expect more stadiums to be given approval for this at future World Cups.
